Two brands that will do collaborations with almost any other brand for money and attention have finally joined forces on a collaboration, presumably for money and attention. Oreo, whose past collab flavors have included Swedish Fish, Spongebob (???), and Google Android (??????), will release a new cookie with [spins wheel] Supreme, the streetwear brand that’s teamed up with everyone from Louis Vuitton to New York City’s MTA.
The Oreo X Supreme flavor looks like it’s actually just Supreme colored, dyed the brand’s signature bright red and bearing its logo, with regular (double stuf) Oreo filling inside. They’re part of Supreme’s Spring/Summer accessories line, available in a thee-pack for a rumored price of $8. And while they’re not out yet, they’ve somehow already hit the secondary market, with bidding for a pack on eBay at more than $500.
Supreme has become a major fashion label by essentially applying its logo to almost everything, from skateboards and T-shirts to fire extinguishers, nunchucks and a literal Supreme-branded brick. Alongside Supreme Oreos in the Spring/Summer collection are a Supreme lawn chair, Supreme binoculars, and Supreme-branded Ziploc bags in which to store your Supreme-branded Oreos.
The big release is February 20 at Supreme’s New York stores. Expect the usual Hypebeast-driven crowds, so maybe bring something to nosh on: These Supreme Oreos are a collectors item, not a snack — right? Or are they some ephemeral work of art whose public consumption is part of its appeal — a mass-market self-destructing Banksy?
For buyers, there’s a bit of time to decide: The shelf life of Oreos is about 180 days. The best way to have your Supreme Oreos and eat them, too, would probably be to buy two packs, at the very cool price of $1,000 on eBay.
